As Merriam-Webster notes, English has plural pronouns like everyone or someone but no singular version. The words ‘They’ and ‘Them’ are expanding their use to become gender neutral third-person pronouns. The list of words is displayed in the Edit Custom Dictionary dialog. We’re not making a judgement about gender-neutral terms, just examining how Word copes. To check that the OOo custom dictionary contains the words from the Word custom dictionary, go to Tools > Options > Language Settings > Writing Aids, select the dictionary to which you added the words, and click Edit. Make sure it is the same as the System Default Language. Language changes over time and the English language seems more flexible than most.
